Women in Conservation: Breaking Barriers in the Forest
At the Sumatran Ranger Project, we are proud to have four incredible women as part of our dedicated ranger team. This Female Ranger Week, we are sharing their stories.


Understanding Sumatran Elephant Bull Behaviour in the Wild.
The Sumatran Ranger Project has prevented human-elephant conflict, and has a deep record of elephant sightings, with almost a decade's worth of research on one particular herd and is the only organisation in the area (Langkhat District) studying Sumatran elephant behaviour in this way.


Farewell Serasi
We are deeply saddened by the passing of our highly respected Senior Ranger, Serasi.


Celebrating Pera!
Our amazing Pera Pinem has won the inaugural World Female Ranger ‘Trailblazer’ Award. Pera was the only female ranger in North Sumatra (and possibly Indonesia) for three years.


Corral number 8!
Sumatran Ranger Project hosted a group of conservation volunteers in May 2023 to construct our eighth predator-proof livestock corral in North Sumatra.


Quarters for Conservation
We were one of three lucky applicants to be selected for field support to help wildlife and people thrive.

Farewell Pak Aries
In late March we unexpectedly lost our beloved Field Coordinator, Pak Aries.

We recently completed our sixth predator-proof livestock corral in the forest edge community of Gelugur.


The Conservation Collective
A newly formed group of passionate individuals named The Conservation Collective got together for their first fundraising event in Western Australia, supporting Sumatran Ranger Project.


Ride for Rangers
During a weekend in October LA Fit donated all proceeds from all ride classes from both of their studios in Perth, Western Australia.

The incredible team at Thin Green Line Foundation have just posted a new article on their website featuring the work of Sumatran Ranger Project.

The relic herd of wild Sumatran elephants that Sumatran Ranger Project follows regularly and monitors.


Locking up cows!
we have been able to complete our FOURTH predator-proof livestock corral along the forest edge in the Leuser Ecosystem in North Sumatra.


A Case Study at Batu Katak Hamlet
