RANGER
NEWS
See what our rangers have been up to!

We stand with Rangers
Every year on World Ranger Day, we take a moment to reflect on the incredible dedication, sacrifice, and courage shown by our rangers, and rangers across the globe.

Protecting Sumatran Tigers and the Communities Who Live Beside Them
This International Tiger Day, we honour the work being done in forest-edge communities and the wild tigers we rarely see, but never stop working to protect.

Women in Conservation: Breaking Barriers in the Forest
At the Sumatran Ranger Project, we are proud to have four incredible women as part of our dedicated ranger team. This Female Ranger Week, we are sharing their stories.

Understanding Sumatran Elephant Bull Behaviour in the Wild.
The Sumatran Ranger Project has prevented human-elephant conflict, and has a deep record of elephant sightings, with almost a decade's worth of research on one particular herd and is the only organisation in the area (Langkhat District) studying Sumatran elephant behaviour in this way.

Farewell Serasi
We are deeply saddened by the passing of our highly respected Senior Ranger, Serasi.

Celebrating Pera!
Our amazing Pera Pinem has won the inaugural World Female Ranger ‘Trailblazer’ Award. Pera was the only female ranger in North Sumatra (and possibly Indonesia) for three years.

Corral number 8!
Sumatran Ranger Project hosted a group of conservation volunteers in May 2023 to construct our eighth predator-proof livestock corral in North Sumatra.

Quarters for Conservation
We were one of three lucky applicants to be selected for field support to help wildlife and people thrive.

Corral number 7!
Tiger-proof corral number 7 is complete!

Farewell Pak Aries
In late March we unexpectedly lost our beloved Field Coordinator, Pak Aries.

Corral number 6!
We recently completed our sixth predator-proof livestock corral in the forest edge community of Gelugur.
