Community Conservation in Action
The Sumatran Ranger Project helps provide long term protection of the Leuser Ecosystem forest edge, to benefit both wildlife and people.

We employ a team of 11 rangers who patrol the edge of the Gunung Leuser National Park in North Sumatra, deactivating snares, providing community education, preventing human-wildlife conflict, and more.
The rangers are local people, supporting forest edge communities to achieve sustainable and practical solutions that help quality of life, livelihoods, and wildlife.

The last stronghold
The Leuser Ecosystem is the only place left on Earth where Sumatran orangutans, elephants, tigers, and rhinoceros coexist in the wild, but the megafauna within the landscape are critically endangered.

It is one of the most biodiverse environments ever described and millions of people depend on it for food, water and livelihoods. It's critical thatw e protect it.
